But at the other end of the spectrum we've got places like Beckworth, with 300+ routes and (apologies to the FA'ers), the majority of them aren't worth a repeat, with some as short as 5m, following no attractive features. And we've got places where very ordinary bolted lines are appearing within centimeteres of each other. And Neil will soon tell you about poor bolting going on. Then theres potential access & environmental issues. I guess my point is, maybe a slow down of FA's isn't such a bad thing in some areas.
The other thing to consider is that with the huge volume of quality routes already established, it would take the average climber a lifetime to tick all the good ones, just in Victoria. As time goes on this resource has grown, making longer, and longer to get to the point where the average climber thinks he/she is short of something new to climb.
The VCC guides are always fatter in the next version (Eastern Districts for example nearly quadrupled in size). FA's are happening. There's also the possiblity that people are out there doing new hard stuff, but not reporting it.
I'm not disagreeing with you Tim. You could well be right, probably are, in fact. |
