Let's not forget that tying a knot in a piece of rope will weaken that part of the rope (up to 40-60% reduction in strength depending on the knot, especially if it is being pulled apart at more that 45 degrees). Having dual clip ins sounds safer, but only if the top knot is in good condition. I have seen a few that are chalk-infested and old, and I sometimes wonder how strong that piece of rope is. If it were to break there, anything clipped or tied under it would be useless. I guess that the onus is upon gym operators to ensure that the ropes are in good condition, correctly tied, etc. |
