I have just come on an interesting note while researching for an upcoming trip to Tassie.
Apparently the Tassie climbing website have had to take the online guides for Frenchman's Cap and Mt. Geryon off their site, because Wild Publications (ie Rock mag), have threatened legal action for breach of copyright.
The Rock mag guide was published in 1992.
Don't know about you guys, but I think I'm going to stop buying rock mag, it only takes 15 minutes cover to cover anyway, and I can sneak a look in the newsagent anyway.
On another note, for those who aren't blue mtns locals, don't waste your time buying the Rock mag guide to the blueys. Possibly the most out of date, useless guide available in Australia. Loads of the routes have been erased (bolts pulled, chips filled), and it doesn't have most of the good new routes that have been done in the last 15 years. Rock mag is doing a disservice to Oz climbing by still advertising it!
Surely local climbing clubs should have the right to publish their own guides. How would Baxter feel if a the Sydney climbing club refused the VCC the right to publish guides to Grampians?
