Hey wait a minute, the enviro impact of a mine is but a tiny speck on the surface. The products of mines provide the building blocks for society. You say this typing on a keyboard looking into a screen inside a house which you drove to in your car and walked up your cement pathway from the brick letter box and asphalt road and turned on the light all powered by electricity which is powered by material which has been dug out from the ground in the Latrobe Valley. Our abundance of resources and comparative advatnge in cheap abundant energy sources is what distinguishes us from Central Africa. The impact on the environment and landscape of the mines in Australia (largely responsible for the prosperous lives we live) is microscopic compared with the clearing of land for agriculture (look out over the Wimmera from the Bard - it's 100% cleared and modified by man) and roads towns etc. People seem to ark up at mines, it doesn't make any sense.
