My rope walking system for caving consisted of two (yellow) jumars and CMI Shorty used in the chest position. I also had a spare grey Jumar and Gibbs without the spring. I understand there were meant to be some documented cases of the Gibbs biting through the rope when shock loaded, they could be a little to aggressive. As for the jumars, anything that is cast is always a candidate to because of the difficulting in producing a inclusion free casting. Wrought material, those that are machined, forged or rolled as in the case of the SMI shorty are much more capable of surviving being dropped.. |
