I was on a ropes course a little while back. We had waist harnesses secured to carabiners by static tape. The technique was to climb up and clip the carabiners into metal rings in a wooden post and then to clip the carabiner into a running line at the top of the ropes course before you start on the chosen 'element' (the name given to each challenge). I though that if you fell on the way up, the dynamic fall onto the static system could be nasty and could lead to failure. The biners were aluminium I think. Someon in the group asked the instructor if the aluminium biners clipping into steel rings would cause damage to the carabiners |
