If you don't have a knife on your harness then you are not prepared for climbing or guiding. Any one who works with me must have a knife attached to their harness that they can access with one hand. I keep mine clipped to my right leg loop. I've had to cut stuff on a number of ocasions. I came within seconds of cutting a rope recently whilst canyoning, the result would have been to drop a guy into a pool, but I got a solution luckily. He got his head clear of the falling water long enough for me to work it out, otherwise there is no choice. We had to revervse Claustral from the bottom of the first fall of Callcutta Falls. Too much water.
