No way are my hardest climbs my highest grades, but I have never chosen a route for its grade. I'm sure if one is looking to tick high grades rather than climb better than this would ceratainly end up being the case. Apart from a route not suiting you, there's also the style to consider (trad or clip ups). Onsighting is also very, very different to redpointing.
