i have to say -gulp- well said kieranl.

BUT.....I dont think the its unethical to pay for the retrevial, but to pay it on the basis of ONLY the outcome is a bit weak

I guess its all depends on the actual going rate for sherpas and what the expedition is willing to pay.

For example paying the standard wage (regardless of outcome) for getting to the appropriate place, or whatever, then a bonus payement (above the standard wage) for actually getting the body(ies) down would seem fine...standard agreement stuff like supporting a summit attempt to say Camp X then not going any further.

No ethical dilema out of the ordinary here. i mean they get paid cash to haul shit up a mountian, why not get paid to haul shit down a mountain?

I'm not saying the pay is any good, but every one tries to get away with payng the least amount possible in any given situation.

But seriously what a load of wank going up to such places to retreive an empty shell....just to stick it back in the ground....pointless...IMHO
