Did Como say he was from the UK?
I think the Gareth has been to the UK from his post, ease off the pedal there kieranal.
Regardless, not all of us have the outgoing charisma and personalities that is obvious in so many of the posters to some of these forums, such that we are instantly able to meet other persons with suitable climbing outlooks, or even general outlooks that we would then want to spend time on a wall with our life (potentialy) in their hands.
Sure you can walk into places like Pete's Eats or anyother climbing related establihment and try to find a belayer, but really how grim is that.
Imagine the scene at any climbing gym anywhere...or walking inot the Natti pub by yourself...."oh hi guys..can i join you"...."no"..."uhhh ok", thats good for the old self-esteam! Where's me pills?????
roped soloing has its place...solitude can be a wonderful thing (so i keep telling myself) and it provides a whole new set of challenges.
Mostlikely i'm so unbearable to be around, farting, picking my nose, unshowered, same undies as month ago, smelling like putrid shit, bits of food sticking to my face,...well that covers most climbers in the middle of a "road trip" (4 day climbing trip)...where is that gri-gri and chest harness again?
However, i'd rather climb with me mates most of the time....eh?
