Back in the day I used to solo Conscientious Pontius at Werribee Gorge as a warm up for the harder stuff. One day I was climbing with someone learning crack climbing so I led it so they could follow up it. I came perilously close to falling off stuffing around placing gear instead of simply moving through!
I've always thought that if you can keep your head together, soloing is easier than leading. You're not carting a rack, stopping to place gear, or as was noted, dragging a rope. So I guess that means roped climbing is more "real". :-) |
