We're booked and confirmed to arrive in Santiago (chile) 1st december 2004, heading up to Arica, climbing Volcan Parinacota 6,342m & Volcan Pomerape 6,222m as our acclimatisation ascents, then heading down to do the south face (japanese route) of Cerro Mercedario 6,770m, and if time permits we may go down to tupungato or some of the volcanoes a bit closer to santiago..
a question:
I will be taking an iridium sat phone , using this with an HP Ipaq H1930 PDA for send/recieve of data (images & text images taken from digi cam to update sponsors websites etc as we go ), iridium dont officialy support infrared data transfer on their phones (yet provide the port??), just wondering if anyone has used such a set up before for similar application and if there was an problems etc ? also there is the option of either dialing up to your own provider or using one of the iridium gateway servers, apparently the gateway offers better data transfer bit rates but has issues with compressed files (ie JPEG's), anyone got any experience with this? and can provide any insight?
