I think the critter most likely to kill Australian climbers is this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_jumper_ant Only a few % of people are hypersensitive but you won't know if you're one of them until you get bit. A jack jumper almost killed a climbing friend of mine when she was at home a couple of years ago. She has had allergic immunotherapy to reduce the risk and always takes an Epipen on climbs. But unless you happen to be hypersensitive to jack jumpers, they're not a problem!
