Hi All,

Thought I'd post this email from the Iranian Alpine Club. I attended an International Climbing Festival in this part of Iran last year and had an amazing time. The climbing is great and the people and culture amazing. Last year's festival had 100 climbers from Europe and Iran, from relative bumblies to the best in the world. I can't make this one but will go again next year. Highly recommend it, contact me for details or contact the organisers below.

Yafteh Rock Climbing Festival
Khorramabad- Iran, May 2013

Yafteh is a massif limestone wall near Khorramabad, a city in Lorestan province of Central Iran. The highest point is 2762 meters from sea level and the wall is more than 8 kilometers long. There are many cliffs and countless routes. It offers many routes some amount to 1000 meters with various technical difficulties. It resembles Bistune Wall in Iran however weather is a bit cooler and the view is nicer.
Festival Activities: Great potential for setting up new routes by different international teams, meeting different rock climbers, forming new teams to climb existing routes or putting up new ones, lots of boulderings and putting up sport routes, base jump and paragliding, introductory rock climbing workshops for beginners, visiting natural and historical attractions of nearby areas.
This year festival is a tribute to Pascal Laheurt, the French climber who fell off Yafteh while rappelling in 1999.
The time-table of Yafteh Rock Climbing Festival:
May 10th 2013; Arrival at Imam Khomeini International Airport, Tehran, Iran
11th ; Driving to Khorramabad (Yafteh) and lodging in hotel and opening ceremony.
12th ; Moving to the camps at the base of Yafteh Wall
12th to 15th; Climbing activities and . . . .
16th ; Return to Khorramabad, visit historical sites and shopping, closing ceremony.
17th ; Return to Tehran
Charges: 200 Euros; covering all expenses in Iran, including transportation, food, and lodging.
Equipment: Technical equipment for rock climbing (Rope, rock protections, harnesses, helmet, route rigging tools,. . .), sleeping bag (3-season), light clothing with Jacket or wind-stoppers, personal Huygens and medicine, sun protection, . . . Etc.
Notes:
Site- seeing, trekking and daily tours are available in Lorestan Province for 20 Euros per day.
Daily temperature varies from 22º to 33º C, at night as low as 16º C and mostly sunny.
