Sad news.

I can remember meeting Ross along with Warwick Williams - when they overtook our party while doing Danae Brook Canyon near Kanangra Walls. One of our group asked them what canyons they had done - and the reply (from Warwick I think?) - "all of them". A few of us thought - "this can't be right!" - and that sparked us to doing a fair bit of exploratory canyoning over the years.

Kanangra Falls was a popular trip back in the 1960's (and a scene a of a big rescue). As far as I know it was first descended by parties from UNSW Bushwalkers led by Peter Melhuish around 1960. However, in those days parties bypassed the slot of the upper falls. I think Ross, together with Nic Bendelli pioneered the route down the slot - in the process placing sets of bolts using a petrol powered drill. This was in the late 70's (or early 80's) I think.

Ross and Nic Bendelli also did a very impressive endurance trip in the mid 70s' - the descent of Kalang Falls Canyon at Kanangra Walls - then they walked to Katoomba from Kanangra Walls and finished off by climbing the West Wall of the Three Sisters - all in a single push. As far as I know this trip has never been repeated. Nic called it the "Supercrawl"
