Has anyone ever used rosin instead of chalk ?
It is claimed to be banned in some places but others see it as more environmentally friendly than chalk. Build up on holds is claimed to be a problem.
" I love rosin, but I don't use it for climbing because I feel it gives me TOO much grip. If regular block chalk doesn't do what you want, this will definitely give you more grip. It needs to be warm to be the most sticky, so breathe on your hands or rub them together. I would be careful with rosin: with too much grip you can increase your risk of flappers."

Yep, as has anyone else who has played any of the bowed string instruments. It can be very sticky under the right circumstances, and I absolutely believe the reports of the build up being much worse than chalk. I wouldn't want to climb with it.

Its been a problem at the Font I do believe due to the build up?..correct me if I'm wrong that its no the culprit.

Rodw, you're correct re: Font. There are problems I've seen there absolutely caked in the stuff, it's foul.

Please don't use rosin on rock.

I used a rosin/chalk liquid mix many years ago that a Swiss friend made. You put it on your hands, a small amount, just enough to coat your hand, then the alcohol dried and you were left with a brittle feeling coating of chalk. I think there used to be something like this for sale in gear shops in Aust., but I never used it.

I used Poff (as it was called) in Font.

Poff is very cohesive. If the rock is caked in it you need to use it because in good conditions it is very slippery. It works but wrecks it for those who don't use it but bushwalkers could say that about chalk.

Why would they say chalk get slippery when wet? :).......main difference is chalk readily washes off

Please don't use resin / rosin / pof. It permanently alters the rock (much more than chalk), creating a shiny glaze on the holds that cannot be removed.

It has been used for decades at Fontainbleau and there are many problems that are now almost impossible without further use of the stuff (pof on hands and feet helps you to stick to glassy pof holds). The ugly pof marks on the rock are also sad to see. A bit of chalk is one thing but this is really bad and will never wash off.

I climb in the blueys so the warm tacky adhesion of my own blood as I close my tips over another two dimensional ladder of pain is suffice. I tried self raising flour but developed a yeast infection.
