I always thought sportclimbing was about the physical gymnastic side of climbing. and that brave pants were not a pre-requisite. So to my way of thinking the potential for a groundfall or ledge-deck should be limited to the ineptitude of the belayer.
If a bolt is going to be placed, it may as well be the best it can be in terms of placement/position, materials used, and placed correctly. Unfortunately sometimes bolts get put in the wrong spot for a certain sized human this is just bad luck for them. what is wrong with stick-clipping with extended quickdraws? As someone else has already said, there are plenty of routes that will be bolted more for your stature/brave level. That's the beauty of climbing.
I like sportclimbing because I get out infrequently these days and don't want the scare factor therefore I stick-clip ( or get my draw monkey to equipe the route) with vigour. I am also very straight up about the method of ascent.
Replace
poor quality bolts, don't add new bolts, lets not sanitise the climbing experience.
