Remember that Lincoln's last trip to Everest was not his own, and he did not go with the objective of summiting. He was there to support young Chris Harris, and when Chris pulled out, Lincoln felt strong and was told to go ahead and summit if he wanted to (by Richard Harris, Chris's dad - I think that's right) . Wouldn't you take the opportunity? In those circumstances who gives a damn about style? Lincoln only did six weeks training for krisake. Considering how much training he did the decision may have been clouded by summit feaver - body not there but training and experience was. It's hard getting old... (though I'm not as old as some old b*ggers on this forum :-). I say good on anyone that gets off their butt and has a go at anything.
