The rules are pretty clear cut on this subject.

In general, if you are an adult and the photo was taken in a public place you have no rights. It makes no difference if you're the only one in a picture at a crag, or part of a crowd on Swanston Street, public space is fair game and no release forms or talent fees apply.

If the picture was taken on private property and you are clearly identifiable then you need to provide consent for it to be published.

Most photographers are genuinely ameniable and like to keep the subjects of their photographs happy. I'm sure if you asked for a print of the image or if you wanted to negotiate use of the file to make a poster of yourself, they would probably oblige.
