Also of note would be that he was zinging down fixed STATIC lines on a grigri so stopping suddenly at the anchor would be a fair jolt. If you're going to use a belay loop it is a simple effort to tie on a replaceable piece of cord/webbing and tape them together. What's that old adage about trusting one piece of gear...?
