not sure of the stats but heard from a fairly experienced climber that more people die from rappelling accidents than from falling while climbing. To repeat many a seasoned climber- always back up your rap to your harness / leg loop - a Klemheist is a quick & reliable way to do this. Personally I find triple checking everything before stepping off the ledge onto a rap makes it a lot more stress free & enjoyable.
