Back in 1998 I visited araps for my second time with a mate.
I had bought my first nuts, but didn't even own a rope.
We were exploring the place, and came upon Procol Harum which was equipped with draws.
We assumed they were abandoned and honestly didn't know better. It seems obvious now that someone at the Pines was projecting it, but we were non climbers, hadn't been mentored, or schooled in these things, so with clear consionces used dead branches from the surrounding area to reverse stick clip the two lowest draws and add them to our virgin collection.
Yes it took about 3 hours. Yes our necks were very sore.
About a year later we were back there as a team of 4, with a full new rack and a couple of ropes playing on Trapeze, and this extremely p!ssed off European guy runs up to my mate, and snatches the draws off my mates harness.
Yes he knew we'd pinched them. Yes they were his. Yes we were amazed.
No we had never considered there'd been a victim from our action.
I hope he still tells his side of the tale around camp fires...
