Gutted :( I love the passage in The White Spider that discusses Bonatti's attempt on the North Face of the Eiger: "For in July 1963, Walter Bonatti came, and he came alone. Everyone watched him, and everyone was disappointed..." (Harrer does go on to explain why everyone was disappointed and vindicate Bonatti.) Still, Walter got to live in a time when mountaineers got to be romantically involved with movie stars.
