I tend to think that a lot of people have their ad hominem radars way too finely tuned and perceive any barbs or negativity directed their way more personally than they should.

I've also never had any time for the "would you say that to someone's face?" argument. Well no, that's the point. That the internet teases out real ideas that real people are thinking should be celebrated just as much as it is decried. How often is it said that people should just say what they think? Ironic that the internet often comes closer to delivering this than, ahem, "real-life".

I'd be well disappointed if ODH, WWS and others were shackled or censored in any way. Wendy was spot-on. In a functional internet forum, any user that oversteps the mark should be reined in by other users. There are limits to this self-regulating system of course, and that's where the moderators come in.
