The first picture is taken from an atypical stance off to one side. The 2nd (Carter's shot) is is non-typical, perhaps using a pricey wide-angle lens or a kite.

Big deal over the 2nd comparisons - I would want to try to capture that photo myself should I make a financial effort to travel so as to climb. And the first is superior, due to showing more landforms and with an air of clarity. It also follows that Rock would not publish the first, as it is cheaper to get a (probably) previously unpublished photograph onto their magazine than seek out permission to re-publish the Rock & Ice one.

How many photos out there of both the SOH and Harbour Bridge? St Kilda Pier and the Spirit of Tasmania? Who was first to do this?
