Judge agrees helmet laws are unnecessary |

Apparently there was some research done by a mob at UTS (I think... heard the bloke interviewed on ABC local radio about 12 months ago) suggesting that the reduction in head injuries since helmet laws were introduced had nothing to do with any increase in helmet wearing. They came to this conclusion by comparing the relative frequencies of limb fractures and head injuries before and after the changes. Head injuries were reduced because crashes were reduced through better roads, better awareness by drivers etc. The upshot was that the group ended up suggesting the removal of helmet laws with the view that it would encourage casual cyclists. |
