ArcGIS - last time I asked it was $7,000 plus another $7,000 for each extension (and I would have needed 3 or 4 for the work I do).

I went with MapInfo $3,000 and all done. Been a great product and I've made heaps of maps with it.

Global Mapper is excellent value and very versatile - just not as 'user friendly'. I also use this for 3d terrain modelling and importing strange formats.
