Aint memory a funny thing... that doesnt sound like the gear I had! Nonetheless, you do have to climb quite high with nothing, then I thought I had a reasonable piece going up through cruxy moves. Single pieces between me at 15m on a technical move and the ground always seem a bit lonely. But its great and its a challenge to build up to. I'm not likely to do it again in a hurry but Im glad I did it. As everyone has said, its not like you get on it expecting a clip up.

The other thing is that its only the first pitch that is like that... the rest is all good.

As for concerns re it serving only as a memorial to soloists
1) this forum shows that it does get a few ascents
2) you can top rope the first pitch (top belay, access via WotAS) if you need to climb it but dont want to lead... all good.
