Oooouuuuch!! I made the mistake of using this thread to make a general observation. When I give people lifts, they are usually friends and I usually don't expect anything. Usually what goes around comes around. On the occasions when I have driven people I didn't know (which used to happen on club trips back when I was in Canberra and a couple of times down here) I usually expect the passengers to pay for the total petrol bill (I pick up the wear and tear). Otherwise a number of clubs quote overall costs of 25c/km which may sound exorbidant but it probably isn't far off the mark. I am just saying that if people were serious about not owning a car and looking for other people to own cars they should at least be aware that a share of petrol costs is sometimes a pretty token effort.
