Caption should read "if anybody else ever climbs on Victorian Granite these
days and do they have equally attentive belayers?"

The photographer was Kai's Mum, Mandy Robertson.

Sending a kid up without a helmet is a bit irresponsible.

I promise you Kai wasn't "sent" up.

Mandy doesn't have an account on here but, on her behalf, thanks for
the kind comments. Much appreciated.

I like it a lot.
Good photographic balance and symmetry, including the areas in soft focus, which serve to accentuate the crystal clear clarity of subject, and also adds (for me), a sense of dynamic to the action portrayed within a grander scale of scenery. It certainly draws me in as a viewer...

Thanks for submitting it.

An afterthought... Unintentional I know, but the photo angle almost cuts out seeing the rope if the foot sequence had've been reversed, which would make the climber look like they were free-soloing!

Mandy just read your comments Rod (M9....hope you don't mind first
names. I find all this pseudonym stuff a bit silly). She was pleased with the
your appraisal, commenting how you obviously "got it". Cheers, Karl.

Two stars for short granite slabs, one for it being Black Hill and an extra star for Kai doing granite the way God intended it to be done... in socks.

I'm lichen it!

I did post myself in response to the last comment above but decided to let the 10
year old come back himself. Kai says, "I wasn't using my knees and elbows, I was
using my hands and feet. What's his problem anyway?"

That's you told.

This is a link to the sun actually colliding with planet earth a few years ago.
How the heck did we all survive do you reckon, Snagtug?

I can't remember, Snagtug. It was 9 years ago. It looks like a cropped shot
from my old 6MP Olympus with maybe a 40-150mm telephoto. Here's
another with that same kid you're bagging from the same evening. How
could you!

Oh, and that sun looks so innocent behind. Who'd have believed what was
imminent?

And here's another from Black Hill showing Kai, sans wobbles, happy as
and having fun, running TR laps on Long Sausage.

No knees or elbows. I know you strongly approve of TR. Give the kid a
break and earn 10,000 karma points for thecrag.com

Alrighty, slabs and long socks are back in style. I was wondering how long it would take for the steep sport route fad to blow over.

Wot do U think of tha ladz style (apart from long sokz) , in tha feetcha pic?

The whole thing is awesome, a giant kick in the nuts to the stupid mainstream of oz climbing. This kid has no fancy climbing clothes, pulls his socks up before pulling the holds down, and someone did a top job of brushing the lichen.
Half the clowns projing 26s at Bell would crap their dacks and back off this thing.

I know! The sock thing. It's so cool. Very now.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/05/fashion/mens-style/black-socks-
shorts-trend.html

It's very Dogtown skatey. I was skating too, back then, but can't remember
whether I was into long socks. Probably not. I've always been a bit of a
dork. Preferring corduroy to denim and that kind of thing. Probably explains
why I am a climber. Kai must've got his high fashion sense from his Mum.
I'll never forget her velvet hot pants. Those were the days.

Kai says, "Thanks for that, ODH. I am bit old school."

Can't imagine EB's making a comeback however retro it gets.

i agree withU Odius that tha lad climbN outside , an serios slab at that , specialy 4 a 10 yo , iz awsum.
