BTW if you are doing this for work you should really consider hitting your employer up about what trainning you should have to do this work. Under fair work laws they cant sack you for asking for such trainning and if you are moving yourself on rope you should have some way of proving compentancy and to move equipment at hieghts have propper rigging trainning,

I know this post in ancient - but I need to re-state a few things.

There are caged ladders - I'm not moving on a rope.
The rope is simply for my lunch and essential gear.
Totaling around 10kg or less.

The cheap rope - is because it gets stolen several times a year as does pretty much anything else not bolted down - and most things that are. My employer supplies said rope.

Working at heights training is provided and regularly updated as needed.
Pulling my gear up a rope is necessary as the ladder cages are too tight to allow the use of a backpack/

Yes the tower is in Gippsland, and yes I'm still on the job years later.
I won't divulge the exact location due to the above mentioned issue.

Oddly, the only thing that has not been stolen is the rope shunt I designed.

Again, apologies for digging up an old post - someone has been on a hacking campaign, and I'm cleaning up old accounts - so this one may disappear soon, as this post was initially for some simple mechanical advice.

In any case - you all look to be doing well, and the advice was sound, as the gear still lives years down the track.
