It belongs in the stay alive thread.
I always clip into the chains on Alis as do most of the climbers i know.

Alis is neither challenging, fun nor exciting. There is no point dying on it.

Marssan has accidentally cross posted himself from the gay thread! Downclimbing Ali's for the first
time 15 years ago, in the dark, with cheap headlights, no experience and howling wind was very
exciting.

Maybe you should form a circle with the nati bolting fairies, shut your eyes, click your heels together
and f--- off. Araps used to be such a good place to learn how to scramble, rig belays and abseils, and
generally get yourself out of trouble, shame it's getting wrecked

regarding dave's inquiry, I was recently informed by a vet that the time limit for stitches is 48-72hrs.
I'm ashamed to say that I wussed out and went to casualty instead of taking him up on the offer of a
backyard stitching job, thereby robbing myself of a scar with a decent story attached

Headlights... luxury! In my day (mutter mutter) burnt our hemp rope for light, in driving rain (mutter mutter) margarine on all the holds (mutter mutter) ... and you tell the kids of today, and they won't believe you...

Agreed, I always take my thongs off when I climb up or down it.

So how do thongs work ON PIG'S TROTTERS!? I always rap down, down climbing just seems so ... energetic.

Wow so much teenage angst against the chains.
In my opinion they're there whether people like it or not (cry and wish as much as you
want hero), the area is getting more polished by the day, and all it takes is one slip and
its a decent way to the ground. I fail to see how the gung ho approach has any validity.

Firstly Zebebee I have always downclimbed Alis because I find recoiling a rope that one more time in the day to energetic.

I love a good via ferrata. My greatest problem with the Alis is that there is not enough steel. Bomber where are the rungs!

In all seriousness though if you are going to clip in with a sling and biner to be safe you really should have a shock absorbing device in your system. If you don't you risk snaping a biner, hurting yourself in a short but high impact fall and most importantly damaging the fixed hardware.

I am clumsy and I am soft and I have the utmost respect for the gung ho. They are valid.

I've never heard of private parts described that way before, but thanks, I might use that.

Ahh, you youngsters ... When I were a callow youth, Ali's didn't have chains, you downclimbed it with the hawser laid rope wrapped over your shoulders (and as it says above) ... mutter mutter ...
