I agree and I wasn't just sending her off to a club. In case you haven't noticed, this site is slanted towards Victorian climbing. I was suggesting checking out the Canberra Climbers Association Website and their Google Groups Forum site because she lives in the ACT and the C.C.A Google groups site is a very active notice board . There is a very good chance to hook up with other ACT climbers for indoor and outdoor climbing, anytime.

I did suggest joining the C.C.A, because I know they are running a Introductory day at Booroomba very soon. I think getting shown the ropes on a easy multipitch route at Booroomba by someone like Keith Bell would be a very memorable experience for someone starting out. And it's probably a lot safer than just going climbing with some random who puts their hand up.

Oh, I'll just leave that alone. It is probably good advice.

Agree about Keith Bell and some easy multipitch. Once you're standing around on a ledge 60m up, getting bored, you start to realise that it's not all that terrifying, and if you're smart climbing's pretty safe and fun. Sunstroke (a long easy climb at Booroomba) was one of Bec's early outdoor climbs, and it broke the ice a lot for her.

Yeah sorry bout that. I thought the little yellow man on the left was the international symbol of taking the piss, but must have been wrong. Thanks for the heads-up.Will check it out and see if I can get myself out there. I have hooked into the CCA group site btw- awesome.

It's not like Farah doesn't know me or anything - finding climbers here in ACT must be hard. She's been inviting me over to see the woody for ages but no action yet!!

I went over to see the monster last saturday- I have to admit it's pretty sensational, it takes up her whole carport! Have been meaning to get over there for the last week. Might try this Fri/Sat- although the getting the mattresses out and then away by myself without help going to be the achilles heel of the whole operation... hmmm

That's because we are all really hairy chested trad granite men down here who know that climbing with the opposite sex (note I didn't say "chicks") will not only cause you to belay badly (O.S. sessions have been banned at Kambah becuase of this), but wives (or significant others that a few of the guys are pretending aren't wives) are highly likely to stick carving knives in our thighs if they find out - this would stop us climbing for a couple of days, so rather than miss out on a climbing trip we all stick to "siloed climbing" down here. Farah prolly hasn't invited me over becuase my wife has threatened her with serious consequences (have I told you that Lt. James Cook said that my wife's tribal group had the reputation of being the fiercest head hunters in the whole Pacific. I personally think it should be revived as a team sport - maybe that's all a bit too much information, but it's better than one of my trip reports - ha ha! Blue Lake trip this weekend - gotta be a TR in it!).

Was down at Whiterocks on Saturday. The climbing is good just of low grades and
short. A nice place to plug some gear if you want to practice or top rope. There is a
really nice short slab, gets a 18 in the guide, although one of the bolts has been pulled
out and makes leading a bit dangerous.

Will be heading down to Kambah tomorrow afternoon you should come.

Anytime between 4.30 and 5.30. If there's no-one in the carpark, just head up the track. After about 2km you will cross over a small swampy creek, climb some treated pine steps - then turn right.
