If you know how to walk up snow covered hillsides in big heavy boots you should be right (providing you have an experienced climber/guide looking after you). I don't think indoor and outdoor climbing around Melbourne is going to provide you with much relevant experience for climbing Mt Blanc. But I am sure there will be plenty of guys in Melbourne offering to help you gain experience of some kind or other. Good luck.

I don't think there are a lot of vertical ice walls on any of the standard routes up Mt Blanc. However, it won't hurt to get out and get familiar with climbing equipment, moving quickly, and offer to carry all the gear so you get the chance to trudge up a lot of hills with a heavy pack. Lots of walking up big hills with heavy packs is probably the best training you could be doing in Oz for Mt Blanc. But if you get your rock skills up, there's a lot of great rock to climb around there as well.

Aerobic training with a pack is a good idea, and being comfortable with crampons and axe are more useful than technical climbing skills if you are going with someone who will show you around
