What a big day! At least 40 people turned up to laze in the sun, drink beer, chat and sometimes climb. Mother nature turned on its absulte best with warm temps and no wind. HIghlights for me was young Alisters tick of the trad test piece of the area Scottish Riegn (24). Apparently he hasn't been outdoors on a rope for over 12 months! Julians very bold first ascent of a high ball boulder problem was outstanding. Everyone had a blast and the mid grades routes proberly got 40 ascents each! I am sure someone will write a big report up but here are some teaser pics of the BBQ and Alisters 24 ascent.

Steve from RH has donated a small prize which I think we should award to the "most inspired lead". Vote now for who you think should get it. Suggestions are:

- Alistair for a near clean onsight of Scottish Reign (24) after a year away from trad climbing.
- Neil for a near clean onsight of Mo Money (25), and for ticking every horrendous jam/off width thing out there including Braveheart (18), Jack Russel (22), etc.
- Kent redpointing up Scottish Reign (24) cleanly.
- Julian for that very, very bold FA high ball boulder problem.

Can we make some sort of proper voting poll? - my vote goes to Al's big lead. His fumbling with the black alien and little wires was outstanding! Especially hairy when one of the wires popped and all he had in was two of the smallest cams money can buy. Go super Alister!

Had a great day, met allot of interesting people, verified my hatred of slabs and granite, had a good feed and did allot of relaxing.

Cheers to all for organizing it, look forward to Chockstone 2004 !!!

My vote goes to Al also great effort, very inspiring !!

I had a great day, good vibes, great weather, and plenty of bold, inspirational leads to watch! I just checked out the video of Julian now --- not sure whether that falls into the category of bouldering or free soloing... very impressive!
I saw Al attempt a repeat on Scottish Reign, including gear popping out --- that would have to be my pick for the day I think, even though I missed seeing the complete ascent.
Anyways I did a few climbs in the teens, comtemplated leading Braveheart but after doing it on top rope I'd lost my confidence, as well as some skin and blood :-) It's all good though, and I am certainly developing a taste (perhaps a fetish?) for granite this year.

Well Chockstoners! great day out, some inspiring leads witnessed, great work in the BBQ (Tim & Rodger) and beer (Jac) departments, not to mention the performance by all the run-solo-tree hang-jump competitors.
p.s. who ever lent me the matches to help light up the BBQ (Steve?) many thanks not sure where they ended up

i would just like to thank everyone for a great day out, im still fairly new to victoria and this was a great oportunity to get to know more people and also the area and its climbs.
im hope there there will be more gatherings like these in the near future.

as for the poll, ill have to vote for julian and the huge bouldering problem, sadly wasent there at the time he climbed it, i was of at wabbit rocks climbing inquisition and attempting inquisition DF(rather pathetic attempt realy), but the video has cnvinced me that it was probably one of the most impressive assends of the day.

well that about it. thanks again for a great day.

We could (and maybe should) actually devote an entire forum to the BBQ - what a monster! Complete with fridges, tables, a huge hotplate and some cool fold-out-wing things to make it more aerodynamic on the freeway. Brilliant.

yep - I was SOOOO IMPRESSED when we bought 10 bags of ice on the way out.... & they barely filled the 'esky' half of the trailer....

I was a little disappointed at the amount of leftover beer at the end of the day (although dodgy probably had his fill....)
