There are plenty of kids who have parents who climb hard, who go on climbing holidays and have had far more opportunity than Angie ever had, but Angie has chased it harder than any young kid I have seen.

Being a crusher is not enough of a story in itself. You need a few other interesting elements if you want to craft a story. Living in Canberra and holding down a 9 to 5 job doesn't exactly come across as a fascinating story that needs to be told.

You can't include everyone in a climbing doco on Yosemite, but I couldn't believe that Valley Uprising didn't include Peter Croft.

gnaguts my terrorist mate Al Khall is my own doing.

Moving to a town that is closest to the centre of the universe, Lithgow, soon.

Anyway to keep thread rift adrift, I have more foot doctors than Macaybe Diva wanting to look at my feet but there is a flood and the bass are on.

I reckons Croft still should be a " news item" not a "newsboy" they're a hillsong rock group popular with the sunshine community church in El Paso Texas. Shit his day with GW unroped is pretty special, as for AH what about the kid who soloed the Fish on Marmolarda.

No arguments there. But given that Honnold was still in nappies when Peter Croft soloed Astroman (arguably the most famous long and continuously difficult free route in the world at the time), then Croft should have received a little screen time.

That wasn't my point. I took issue with your suggestion that Angie learned to climb in a bubble with only her non-climbing folks around. Not true.
You seem to think that top level climbers can appear from nowhere (e.g. Henry Barber). I feel that there is usually a crew around, which actually fits with your take on the 80's Araps scene much better Lizardboy's crap about a one man show.

Marky vs Damo

>) Sit back in your arm chair and have another drink instead of getting angry at the world. Oh wait... that's what old washed out ex climbers like yourself do.... Intoxicated keyboard warrior.

take it outside , boys ...

; P

U lot still dont ' get ' it ....Kim's ' scene ' was not Arapiles-centric .... as it was for say Mark Moorhead ( when he was focusing on rock and not alpine stuff)....Kim's SCENE was THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE ...eg USA , England , France , Germany .... the only reason Kim bothered with Arapiles was because of the world class quality of the rock ....

The only other INTERNATIONAL rock climber to emerge from Australia during the Carrigan Years , was Louise Sheppard ...with her SIGNIFICANT ...tho generally unheralded at the time .... first female ascents ... .. eg Seperate Reality

U can mention anyone else from those years an u will find they were generally ' tourist-climbing ' when O / S.......ie ... not really fratenizing with the TOP world climbers and being involved with pushing the free climbing standards and styles of the day .... the way Kim very deliberately and PROFESSIONALLY was doing .....yeah I know...Java ...well his main focus was big wall aid and the Karakorum ........

yeah here it comes

" ...aaaarrrrggghhhh ima ... ya fullash#t ....ya dunno wot ya talkin about !!!!! ..."

one of the few ppl who ' get ' it ...is Davej....so here's the Davej Years :

http://www.alpinist.com/doc/ALP17/arap-addiction

'...I've always been much more inspired by the lines that I haven't climbed than by the ones I have. Among the former, Inquisition—a widening crack through a six-meter roof, Arapiles' last remaining aid line—may represent its last great problem. There was a dark chapter in the story of Arapiles when climbers, assuming they were as good at climbing as anyone was ever going to get and therefore anything they couldn't climb was impossible, began installing bolt ladders over the top of numerous Arapiles future classics—an even messier and less creative solution than chipping. Fortunately, Henry Barber visited in 1975 and freed many of these lines, causing the locals to re-evaluate their preconceptions. As standards improved, Arapiles climbers whittled away at the aid he'd left; Kim Carrigan, in particular, made huge inroads with his free ascents of climbs like Procul Harum. Gradually all the aid has been eliminated.

Except on the Inquistion. A line of rusting aid bolts marks the way, forming a perfect blend of history and future. Years ago I spent some time working the line and managed to do all the moves. I even linked them together into three sections. But a decade later it remains unfinished. I would love to see someone free it, and complete the job that Barber started....'

AND KIM MOSTLY FINISHED ....
