AT LAST !!!....... I 'VE (RE) FOUND IT !!!

... this is essential reading to understanding the essence of Kim Carrigan during the Carrigan Years ....

click on each scanned page , of Greg ' Java ' Child's article PACIFIC CRUISE to enlarge the text.

I dredged this classic up as well .... next year ( 2018 ) , Kim will have done 60 orbits of the sun .... that's what 'age ' means ......here is a very hairy KC
at age 19 .....on the second ascent of Pacific Ocean Wall ... at the time it was regarded as the ' hardest ' big rock wall on the planet .

Now imazzzzzxx dunno why you pick on me don't think I've posted much if at all on this KC thread.

For the record I saw your post and it is pretty impressive to achieve that at age 19..........

......I mean that is one serious beard! Many men twice his age couldn't achieve that.

1/. He climbed harder routes at the time when Jerry Moffatt & I were starting out and Big Ron was tops in UK. Ron would've out-run him on the sea cliffs or grit on a daily basis but your hero was 'exotic' as he was from a land barely known up there. This wa glamour and 'inspirational'.
'Carrigan's Groove' on Pen Twyn was a variant on My & JM's 16/17yr old kids' 'Mayfair' coz he couldn't do it.
Old 'Crags' mag sub-headline "Bruce Bounces" ... check it out. Admittedly I followed Redhead on the 2nd ascent and made the third but how could anyone fail on that!!? It was p*ss as a 19yr old just very (VERY) run out.

2/. Errr ,,, he was a very pleasant and personable chap that's all, no more to say.

3/. What? Whinge, me? About something from a year ago ,,, ?

Have to dash ima..... but thanks for the momentary diversion from more pressing issues.

Book? Your own personal fantasy or a KC w*nkfest where 99.5% of modern (indoor) climbers wouldn't even know who the heck you're constantly banging on about?

Keep living the dream....!

Didn't he recently set the green route on wall 3 at Hardrock in the city? ;-)

Well that says it all doesn't it. Seriously! SAD, pathetic and nothing to scream about!

Kim Carrigan's comeback is an Indoor 'green route' on Plastic Holds that ten year old girls & boys will cruise.

Shakes head, honestly does ,,, back to 'Punk' Vol 2 - thanks, will make a chapter & a meal of this post.

Wow , that green route is nigh impossible and ive worked my way quite quickly through other colours. Mostly onsights actually. That is inspiring! I heard he did the first free ascent of 'birdbath' in the 60's at Arapales and its like grade 32 or something crazy!? Where can you buy this book? I allready have the one about Mikl Law.

Charlie Creese .... he gave Kim quite a bit of anguish ... with a route he established in the ' Quwarry ' in NZ ...

' ... the route that keeps Kim awake at night ...' (Screamer magazine I think )

....you and JM couldn't do Mayfair ...

'... a couple of 16 year old schoolboys from nearby St David’s College had
attacked the same wall by the line of a 1972 Roland Edward’s aid route, Mayfair,
which they freed except for a couple of rests. Their names Andy Pollitt and Jerry Moffat....'

>>>how could anyone fail on that!!

CALM TH FARK DOWN AP !!!! .... you nearly burst into tears in the chat with Creesy when recalling about 3 of ur mates who died doing easy soloes ...( 11.53 in the video )

Has anyone got an INTELLIGENT explaination as to why ppl love to hate Kim ?...

'...It was also during this time, many of the climbers Clune had met on the road made their way to the Gunks. American climbers like Ron Kauk made the pilgrimage, and overseas hero-status climbers like Jerry Moffat, Patrick Edlinger, Wolfgang Güllich and Kim Carrigan came to the Gunks as a sort of rite of passage into American climbing. “All those guys knew how to place gear because they had been brought up in the trad climbing era,” says Clune. But coming from Europe, where sport climbing already had some years under its belt, they had strength, too. Rather than sampling the classics, they were asking Clune, “where are your hard routes, and we’ll tell you if they are.”...'
