Dave Macleod was in picture or people this week. I ripped the pages out on the dunny and can't remember which mag it was. Proof that men do read the articles. I'll try and scan the pages and post 'em.

Portrait of Clockwork Orange (Shipley Lower) in the background. A promotion at marrickvelle metro, there are also shots of heathcliff, which looks odd from the valley.

7:30 report Tasmania report on the first ascent(?) of The Candlestick, Tasman Peninsula. Impressive footage of the swim across - ouch.

Well done to the team!

The 1975 Sportsnight film (I was there being a porter & looking after a cameraman on a ledge on Mitre Rock) was a "remake" of the first ascent. A fun weekend, although Mendelt in the washing machine was a bit of a worry at the time.

Not really media watch, but a very cool pic and this seemed a good place to put it.

Awsome photo. I was wondering if they were base jumpers, but realised that would be tricky with full camping gear on your back.

I once saw a series of photos of that location with the flat area chock-a-block full of tourists, and a boat sailing past below for perspective. ~> Think conga-line on Everest vide jumars, and you will have my impression of the place at that time!

A few years ago I did a TMC in NZ with a guide called Geoff Wyatt, who said he used to climb with those guys. Geoff said that when they climbed The Candlestick they also named the pillar between it and the mainland 'The Matchstick'. Apparently it was years later when it was re-named 'The Totem Pole'.
A bit of a shame I think because The Matchstick has more symmetry, imagination and individuality.
