Whoa, thats crazy talk. Drinking beer won't necessarily make you put on weight. The problem is not so much the beer drinking, but rather the lifestyle that beer-drinking often accompanies. I saw an interesting paper about this, that looked at the contribution of beer to the obesity problem, that did stuff like working out the GI of beer. Unfortunately its at uni and I'm not. I'll post the highlights on Tuesday.
Basically, if you live an active life, and burn the energy from the food you get, then you won't gain weight.

Hi Duncan,
I think that there was a fair bit of tongue in cheek with some of the tips, what I mean't about "it being gold" was that it was very humorous. As for drinking beer, I very rarely touch the stuff as it has too many useless carbs for my liking. I'm trying to live an active life, I think that the winter has slowed down my metabolism, thus making it harder for me to burn some of the energy from food.
Cheers

I thought the "being gold" reference was to the crappy mid-strength beer they consume in QLD and NT ;-)
Townsville has great climbing, for FNQ anyway (I was considering relocating there about 8 months ago). Enjoy yourself

Hey Peacey,
No offence to your aspirations (or to any other artillery bretheren outn there), but if your GAS score is high enough, you should look to a better paying and more interesting job than gun number. You will not have any qualifications when you leave the Army that are worth much, and artillery never deploy overseas with their guns - only to act as infantry. Try looking at trades (mechanics, electricians, etc.) or better paying and more overseas-bound jobs such as medic, movements operator, pay clerk, etc.

kapooka is overated! but like gravitychaser said, you should transfer to something that gives you something when you leave the army. playing with big guns sounds cool but but are you going to spend the rest of your life doing it?
anyways have fun training, dont take it personally and enjoy it!
and if you want to become a better climber do one thing, boulder boulder BOULDER! it trains power, power endurance and problem solving.

What a pile of turd!
I was down at nowra last year and saw a visiting yank kid fall off Very Nice Piece Of Cake (24, 9m, V1 crux) cause it was too pumpy. He then popped up to Sydney and won a round of the national bouldering series??!!!
If you want to be a better climber, get some stamina, go out on rock, do lots and lots of pitches. If you want to sit around, do f--- all, talk shit, and pose in your down jacket and beanie...get a crashpad and call yourself a boulderer!

that is not exclusive to bouldering, there's a lot of down jacket folk just hamming it up the streets generally these days and other places but I wish not to offend.

Absolutely right onedayhero, no one ever improved their climbing through bouldering.
(shhhshhh everyone, don’t tell him about turning cruxes into cruises – he has taken a stance and doesn’t want to hear about it)
