A few climbers have started asking about whether they can donate a few dollars towards the new Burnley Wall. The answer is YES. We do have funds to play with, though they are of course limited. And remember – the more funds we have – the more routes we can put up!

Donations of all sizes are very welcome. To give you an understanding of prices: a small foothold costs around $4 and a large juggy handhold costs around $21. Help us bring great variety to you and donate!

To donate to the Burnley Project, you can transfer funds directly into the account listed at the bottom of this post.

OPTION 1:

Transfer funds directly to VCC account. If you would like a receipt for taxation purposes, you should also email the treasurer requesting your receipt. The subject of your email should read "Burnley Donation Receipt Required". The email address is : membership@vicclimb.org.au

BSB: 733526
Account Number: 525985
Bank: Bank of Melbourne
Account Name: Victorian Climbing Club Inc
**Be sure to put a comment against the donation that reads "Burnley Donation" such that we know exactly what the funds are for.

OPTION 2:

Send cheque to VCC.

Victorian Climbing Club
GPO Box 1725
Melbourne 3001
Victoria, Australia
** Attach a brief cover note indicating the donation is a "Burnley Donation". Also make a further note if you require a receipt for taxation purposes.

Thankyou!

Neil,

I feel the pressures on to go one up.

I've got a bag of at least 10 holds sitting at home.

Jac, collect these from me when you want/need them.

Cheers,

Rob

Yes, donations of actual holds will also be considered. Neil and Rob, I will definitely take you up on your offers :-) Perhaps you could pass the holds through to me at the gym?

last time time I looked in the steel box there were only some rusty steel 'biners & hexes. don't remember any plastic holds. You might have to chisel the boulder problem off the front wall instead.

The final (engineering) draft of the design incorporated some changes that require us to do some recalcs. We are working thru that at the moment.

I'm not keen on publishing the names of companies we intend to use on an internet forum. However if there are Chockstone users that have skills or companies that they feel could contribute to the project, please feel free to PM me... I'd be pleased to hear from you.

Hi everyone,

*** BURNLEY BOULDERING WALLS NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION ***

I would like to provide you with a status update on the Burnley Project. As you can appreciate, we are running this project on a very limited budget. As such we are sourcing free labour and discount rates where possible. This of course means we at the mercy of when people are available, or when full-paying customers come along and naturally get put ahead of us in the queue with our vendors. Your patience is appreciated in this regard.

So, for the status report:

Thankyou to everyone that helped on the Nail Removal Team earlier this year. For those that are unaware, we ran a very successful working bee to remove some nails from some marine ply that we sourced. This marine ply will be used as the backing board (ie not the front fascia) on the Burnley Bouldering Walls.

All the relevant organisations have agreed upon a design, and it has been certified by an Engineering Firm. Thankyou to our team members Tim Le and John Middleton for their tireless work thus far on the design. Also thankyou to David Ritman of Parks Victoria, who has put in countless hours of work wading through all manner of tasks including legal paperwork that we all love to hate.

We have now purchased the steel required for the project, and cutting and welding work has commenced offsite at a Fabrication Company.

I am now talking with people in the climbing community that have skills in high access or rigging, as these are people that will be particularly useful when we need to install the steel at the site. If you have these kinds of skills, please feel free to send me a PM – I'd love to have you on the team.

I will post my next status update when the fabrication stage is completed.

Things are moving!

Best Wishes,

Jacqui Middleton

Hi everyone,

STATUS REPORT : BURNLEY PROJECT

Fabrication (ie cutting and welding of steel) is well and truly underway, and is likely to be completed next week.

The phase following fabrication is hot dip galvanising (which could take a further 3-4 weeks).

In the meantime, I have secured the installation team and have already met with them to discuss the fine details relating to installing the steel framework at the site.

Stay tuned for the next update.

Regards,

Jacqui Middleton

Dear climbers,

STATUS REPORT : BURNLEY PROJECT

Fabrication (ie cutting and welding of steel) turned out to be a complex process, but I am pleased to report that this phase is now complete.

Our steel framework has been transferred for hot dip galvanising (this work has already commenced).

The step after this is the actual installation of the steel framework at the site. We have a team ready and waiting to do this, and hope to commence early in the new year.

Stay tuned for the next update.

Regards,

Jacqui Middleton
