Hi all,
Just starting out on my climbing journey.
What books to read to gain more knowledge - obviously to go hand in hand with mentoring from a seasoned climber and skills courses etc.

TIA

Have you looked at the Technical / Instructional books listed on Chockstone?
http://www.chockstone.org/Media/Review.asp?
It’d be a good place to start and there’s also good info in the Tips and Tricks section.

Anything by Antony Cyril Sutton.
Those Eric Shipton books have got nothing on 'a law unto himself' , cant remember who wrote that one though, whatever you do dont read Eric Horst, his surname sounds too much like 'horse' to lend him any credibility.

I always liked "Rockclimbing : getting started" by Glenn Tempest, if you can find a secondhand copy as it's out of print. It has a good overall coverage of equipment and techniques; concisely presented. Also relevant to Australia.
"Mountaineering — Freedom of the hills" is extensive and regularly updated.
I'm reading Andy Kirkpatricks "Down" which is very detailed book on rappelling. There is a short e-book version from Amazon I think. Haven't looked at his other books like "1001 climbing tips" but he writes and illustrates well.
Also a bunch of articles on here work digging through
