Hey All - Its been a hot minute since I've walked this forum. Hope all are well and living there bestest - lockdowns be damed!!

I'm i wondering if anyone knows if there is an Arapiles based group that hold any kind of climbing safety course, kinda like a brush up on self rescue/partner rescue skills.

I figure this is something you can pay a guide/company for but what abouts as a community initiative to make climbing safer for all and available to those that maybe can't afford the former option or disregard this important aspect of climbing?

Just curious.

Thanks Team

Hi Team,
In the ongoing absence of bro simey and sis Wendy from our midst at the mo, both long time ‘Raptilian instructional types, you’re gonna have to wait and hope that either bro K-man or bro ajf read your message to give you the good oil, but this not to be confused with the oil required to lubricate the infamous ’raps squeeze test. Okay?
Your welcome

VCC have run rescue courses in the past. I did one and found it quite good. Cost was negligible (if any, beyond VCC membership).

There are also a lot of great videos on YouTube - easily the cheapest option, and allows you to go over techniques repeatedly until you understand them.

If you don't actually practice it from time to time though I think you lose it pretty quickly.

Thanks guys! I've looked into the VVC stuff in the past, not sure what there up to atm. The youtube world can certainly help refine some things as can books and just a refresh and practice, though getting together with crew always works best I think.

Haha, not sure I'd be crazy enough to try fir through that bad boy, even with oiliest of oils.

Thanks

For a community-run thing the limiting problem is insurance. So would need to be auspiced as an official activity by some group like the VCC or get a group together to hire a guide through a guiding company. I'm pretty sure that VCC isn't running these at moment.
Otherwise get together with a friend and practice a few of the techniques. Just whenever you practise something new give yourself a backup system and an escape plan. The friend is part of that. You don't want to end up alone and slowly asphyxiating on the rope.

Practice 2m off the ground and always have a knife on you.

Your middle name isn’t Yates by any chance?

Yeh, and don’t climb with ghouls, no matter how friendly they seem.
Good oil K-man.

There is a company but it's from UK. They have great IRATA leve 3 technicians who work for safety and rescue. Right now, I don't know if they offer online course for safety climbing. But you can try to consult them, it will be a great help for you. https://ubiqgroup.co.uk/consultancy-services/
