I was just suggesting if someone is concerned - use the available facility of a notice board. I know I read some of the stuff on there. And I didn't know about that issue with the helicopters, and I would guess some of the high line folk don't either. For that matter drones rule out helicopter recurs too don't they?

I'm impressed with Americans' foresight by anticipating the invention of the drone when they drafted the Second Amendment in 1791

I was actually chatting to one of the slackliners out at Arapiles this weekend and they mentioned that a line up on the bluffs that had been left overnight in high winds ( I think Thursday night maybe ) had been vibrating in the wind and when they checked it in the morning the main line was about 70% cut and the back up static they run underneath also had serious sheath damage. They apparently put padding and protection between the lines, back up and the rock but this had been dislodged by the continuous over night winds and line movement.

I think they meant left over night Tuesday night.

We watched it thrumming away and the padding blowing away on Wednesday about an hour or two before they took it down during the high winds. Both lines were deflecting about as much as the backup is in this shot:

I guess the serious storm warning for gusts up to 100kmph etc wasn't a clue that they should take it down beforehand.

I won't be putting my hand up to buy any slack-lines coming up for sale in the near future(!) ... as I imagine the constant whipping like that in the picture would be similar for the rope as taking multiple falls on it?
Yes the ropes are statics, but I can see it now when purchaser asks "rated for how many whips?"
Heh, heh, heh.

Re drones. I envisage interesting times ahead when people object to their privacy being invaded and carry sling-shots or similar to deal with them...

I also don't imagine that PV would think them a good thing to have flying around cliff-lines during Peregrine nesting season...

I'll try to write an extended post after work today.
It will aim to lay out the detailed facts (of which I have the best knowledge of on here in regard to highlining at Arapiles and slacklining scenes both in australia and overseas) then we can move forward with productive debate without poor speculation.
Im not prepared to engage in any personal arguments on here, so lets keep it productive and get some good info out there.

Might be good to start a new thread focussing on the issue and prompt further discussion and debate.

As much as l find them incredibly annoying, I think drone based photography will be the basis of the next generation of climbing guides (the app type not the human type).

Border Mail reported this morning that a Wallan man fined $777 for flying his drone in Mount Buffalo National Park last August.

He was also fined a further $777 for driving on a closed road...

How is that good Dalai?

"All commercial photography is an offence."
The cost per day of permit is (I forget exactly but about) $135 per day that you wish to shoot pictures of climbers.
How many more climbing guidebooks do you think are ever going to get produced if that regulation is enforced? (Hint: less than one).

Setting aside Simey's creekside mansion and garage of luxury cars, what makes you think that producing guidebooks is a commercial activity?
