Shows how much I take notice of things that don't interest me at the time.

I spent yesterday cooking for the cafe, so I haven't gotten out there. And won't until Sunday at least. I figure the first line of attack is talking nicely to people about the matter as they potentially have no idea they are doing anything wrong (seems a fair bit of blinkers needed, but it's possible).

I have had discussions with a few different slackliners, particularly about the Bluffs and using the abseil anchors above Missing Link. None of these people understood much about anchors in general and that they were actually cross loading these abseil anchors. They were also a little ignorant of the fact that these anchors are pretty useful for abseiling from the Bluffs. You may find that there is a bit of ignorance in the slacklining camp about what they are up to.

So turning their slacklines into confetti and showering them with it isn't going to help?

Yeah...and then who's going to clean up that mess. Confetti is such a bugger to pick up :):)
Welcome to a new user group! Being serious for a moment - best to move forward civilly at the beginning. Good chance then that some issues may never develop. Cos there's a good chance, that the slacklining experience will develop..

I reckon the NBF have to shoulder a bit of responsibility. It would be a lot easier if you could go up to the slackjawed liners and say "the existing ethic here is to not place belay bolts where natural anchors are available". That used to be the general way things worked at araps, but isn't any longer thanks to the convenience brigade.
Speaking of which, did I see a fuching loweroff on Birdman? I hope I'm mistaken, but it sure looked like it.

did you sneak into town and not pop in? i haven't heard about a lower off there, but i do actually agree it would be excessive - it's a 2 minute easy scramble mostly on rock off the back.
how's the knee anyway?

As if I would go to araps and not drop in to say hi? I spied something very bolty looking on Birdman when I was down last time.
Knee is cactus, am pretty glad that I'm not a horse. How's your shoulder rehab/grade a week program coming along?

Yes there are 2 shiny bolts at the top of Birdman of Alcatraz.
Does anyone know who put them in?
Maybe it was those accursed slackliners. These people need to be educated in the rights and wrongs of bolting.

FFS do people not understand the Trad ethic at Arapiles?? I thought that it was pretty damn clear - especially for climbers.
Re the slackliners, I agree something needs to be done to spread awareness about the bolting ethics at araps. The sooner the better. At most climbers have some respect for the rock, I doubt slackliners have much vested interest at all.

Bugger. Hope it doesn't mean the year or so of misery that I just had! Fixable by itself or surgery? Rehab program is having a little hiatus at 18-19 - seems to get a bit sore, i think it's mostly muscle tiredness and a little irritation of all the stuff that got cut and sewn and generally roughed around a bit. Surgeon is still happy with it and given the go ahead to continue moderate climbing. seems like too much bicep action is bad, which kinda makes sense, so I'm leaving it there for a while.
No idea who put anchors in Birdman. don't think people can complain about it being nati bolting fairies anymore, as the major contributors to that have moved away. Someone put a spangly new route and anchor to the right of 1st pitch of lawrence too - my main question there is why bother in all that choss, but who knows what people are thinking.

Interesting that UKSlackline.net has an access issues page. Looking for any Australian Slackline sites, Slackline.com.au seems mostly commercial. Says they have lots of members but the Forum page is "under construction" which normally means is never going to be implemented. They also have a farcebook page which I might try to check out tonight.
(and bolt anchors on Birdman???)
(post-edit: ??? and right of 1st pitch of Lawrence, that was pretty much all climbed over donkey's years ago (Scarecrow, Forbidden Fruit, Semi-detached))

I'm not an admin on the Slackline Melbourne Facebook closed group, but send me your FB details and I'll get you in. However, the melb. group is no where near as active as the queensland and nsw mobs. Both of which have been to araps allot this past year.

I'm starting to seriously wonder about how much climbing you Nati folk actually do! I saw the things at new years, so they've been in for at least 3 months.

In that case, maybe I should be wondering about your eyesight.......we spotted the Birdman bolts from the track as we were walking past.
