Despite the recall of the GG2, I still love the thing to bits. The improvment in paying out rope quickly, and the ability to use skinnier cords mean that I refuse to use a GG1 now if my GG2 is around.
The recall is only a problem if you're misusing the device in the first place. I've never opened GG all the way up to lower someone off or abseil, and if I had, I can't see that I would ever feel the need to keep cranking on the handle and force it beyond its natural limit of its range of motion. This scenario is the only way that they've had lockng mechanism failures as per the recall.

On a different note, for those who sent their GG2 back to Spelean for replacement, what was the turn around timeframe?
