I was at Araps at the time (we had a spectacular view of the rescue chopper over the top of the Bluffs from where we were at the Organ Pipes). Some friends of mine were doing Deathwatch Beetle when the accident happened, apparently it was their gear that was used by the guide for the rescue. The things I've heard about the fall include that he was off route, and a chicken head failed (perhaps that was his last piece of gear). There were several different versions of events floating around the Pines that night and the next morning, so I don't know what really happened.
