Hi,

After reading Julian Saunders' article on climbing injuries and him recommending seeing a doctor that had some experience with that sort of thing, can anyone recommend someone, or where better to look ?

thanks :)

Hi JP, have you seen this post by ecowain in the unswoc forum?

In short, Peter Chaly wrote an article about common finger injuries amongst climbers in the last Rock issue (56). He's at:

Kenso Physio & Sports Injury Clinic
in the Unigym, UNSW

there's a chiro somewhere in the sydney western suburbs who is quite good with climbing injuries (being rather a rock-oriented lad himself)
i cant think of his number off the top of my head but if you want ill grab his details and post them up?

Ah, should look closer to home first, no ?
Thanks for the follow-up, I think checking at our very own unigym is a great start :)

If you're after a hand specialist, there was one that came around and gave a free lecture at ClimbFit, St Leonards a while ago. (Truly gruesome slides).

She runs a specialiality in climbing hand injuries. Based at Royal North Shore Hospital.

I went along for one visit for an injury and she seemed okay - but it was just the one visit.

I don't have the details with me, but let me know and I can provided.

Spelean P/L have just recieved a new climbing-specific injury book - "One Move Too Many" (or similar title). I have only had a quick flick but was very impressed, in particular by a photograph of the inside of a sliced-open finger clearly showing the two distinct types of pullies mentioned in Pete Chaly's article in Rock. Produced by Petzl, its soft cover and pricey - perhaps $55.00 retail (guessing) but apparently very thorough.

The RNS physio is Susan Dunn. She has a great reputation. Contact her through the hospital.

Dr. Jill McDonnell is an excellent sports injuries doctor with quite a bit of experience with climbers.
