I am reminded of a comment by Todd Skinner , an American big wall climber , who indicated he always would like a Canadian on his team because while many are afraid of dying, Canadians are not afraid of living. It is a generous comment but a bit too extended. We do not have the market cornered on this by any stretch and this is aptly seen in the life of Sue Fear. Her passion for living had nothing to do with a death wish but merely claimed her summit of living life to the fullest degree, passionately and generously against a less satisfying and personally challenging life limited by a fear of death. In his book ' Fall of the Phantom Lord" - dealing with the deceased Amercian
free fall climber Dan Osman, Andrew Toddhunter states'

"We all draw lines, spontaneously or after long reflection, and every one that
matters is a kind of death. And yet each line is an offering, less a bar of closure
than a circle, inscribed to shelter something we love more."

Sue Fear's circle was drawn broadly and with passion - around the mountains and people that defined her being and spirit. Rather than a death wish, it was a supreme statement of living. She drained the tank for all she had in it. We all should be so lucky as to do as well.

Young women like my daughter are blessed to have role models such as Sue Fear -
to follow their call of "No Boundaries" and to be everything you want to be and to accept nothing to the contrary.

It is important to celebrate her living and honor her personal qualities as much as her accomplishments. It is possible to admire someone even if you never have met them.
