Aidfest 2018 at Mt Buffalo 24-25 November.

Event is open to all who want to attend, and similar to previous events it'll be a pretty informal gathering of like minded individuals to share knowledge about aid climbing, maybe just start into it (or observe it?), and/or simply find partners and get up some coveted aid objectives at one of Australia's premier aid climbing destinations.

Potential attendees, or at least those who have expressed an interest in relatively recent times...

IdratherbeclimbingM9 - confirmed (on whatever date).
climberman - really high quality maybe! - 24/5 November.
TimP - confirmed - 24/5 Nov. - may book own campsite for family.
Davedave - 23/5 Nov - confirmed - plus a few extra days
zacwatson - 24/5 Nov - confirmed

Proposed date for this years event is weekend of 24-25 November, however I'm aware that Saturday 24th is the date of the Victorian election, so it would mean prior postal voting for any Victorian participants...

Speak up if you intend attending, and if the proposed date is inconvenient enough to warrant postponing the event to a later date, though for me at least, the following weekend is also inconvenient due to another commitment.

I figure on booking our campsite/s? later this month while we still have plenty of options available for choice in late Nov.
In previous years most usually arrive Friday night and depart late Sunday afternoon.

Further information about ParksVic camp fees etc to be added here when I copy my previous links from previous Aidfest posts.

A Previous post with links to various Trip Reports arising from earlier Buffalo Aidfests.

(If you view the messages on that thread post linked above, and go to page two, then you will see the 2016 Trip Reports).

Copy of a 2016 post containing general info...
>Site inclusion covers up to 6 people and one vehicle, with additional vehicles costing $9.70 per vehicle, per site, per night, though the Rangers have been pretty good (flexible) with our group in the past ... and hopefully will be again.
>We normally split costs depending on how many attend and how long they stay...

>If any want to extend the booking into the following week then that shouldn't be a problem as mid-week bookings are normally much easier to obtain...

Our preferred site/s when I book are 12 and 13, though we made do with 56 in 2016.
>NOTE: Site 56 is not our 'usual' site as the usual site (and others close to it) were already pre-booked; however Site 56 still has a table, tap, and fireplace (byo wood), along with a great view, ... so was definitely the best of the remaining sites for our purposes and still relatively close to the amenities block.

Count me in as a really high quality maybe!

Will check dates and stuff over the next week or so. 24/25 is as good as any to kick off with.

Count me in, good call to postal vote: I hate being hassled like I'm undecided until I run the gauntlet 10 meters from the polling booth!
Camping wise I'm thinking of sleeping on the North Wall — rap in and portaledge to spend some time acclimatising to exposure and self belay aid experimentation. I'm thinking the top of Defender of the Faith. If my family comes I'll book a site for my mob.
Have renamed my home-made portaledge a liability-ledge after struggling to deploy it up a tree in the dark and snow for the Big Canopy Campout (some photos on instagram @climbdesign). Anyway will use it if I can't afford a real one by then, got my eye on John Middendorf's awesome new D4 Trapezium http://www.bigwallgear.com/d4-trapezium.html

I'm keen though not sure I can line up dates due to prior commitments. I'll see what I can shake out.

I'm looking forward to catching up again if you can make it, and yes we won't hold freeing stuff against you; not that there is a lot left to free at sensible (verses astronomical) grades if I recall correctly.

Dalai and jkane, Is the following one any better?
Early days and there’s a slim chance that the numbers may swing your way yet??

Penciled it in the diary. Could be flexible with dates if need be.

Okay, getting close to the event now, so bumping the thread.

I have already cast my vote (Victorian elections) at an early voting centre in anticipation of being at the Aidfest instead. The good news about that process is that they no longer require an excuse to do so, as has been the case up until this year.

At this stage as best I can ascertain, the weather also looks like being fine for the event.

I will book our campsite on Friday this week (2 days from now), to give a little time here for a better finalisation of attendee numbers involved, though it's shaping up like only one shared-site will be required.

Once I've booked, which involves paying for it, then I will be attending regardless of the weather, so if it becomes inclement then I will still try and salvage as much climbing related activity as I can with whoever else turns up.

The current list of participants for Aidfest 2018 at Mt Buffalo (arrive Fri night 23rd for) 24-25 November is;
IdratherbeclimbingM9
climberman - really high quality maybe!
TimP - confirmed - may book own campsite for family.
Davedave - confirmed - plus a few extra days
zacwatson - confirmed

phillipivan - pencilled in.

Duece4??

Miguel75 - keen though not sure. - Shaking out! ( - Nah, probably debating going on a shoe hunt instead!! Heh, heh, heh.)

Any other confirmations / cancellations / additions?

Rod, I assume "I'm going to Aidfest" was accepted for prior elections.

We have until now managed to separate ourselves from them!

Hey gfdonc, as an experienced aid climber with a number of ascents of Ozy, 2nd ascent of Knocking On Heavens Door (plus repeats), and Yosemite, etc in your bag, Ydoncha come along and share camaraderie of the aid rope experience to help indoctrinate some unsuspecting newbies into the dark art?

I'm sure it'd be great, and I'm hanging out to get to Buffalo again but my weekends are currently soaked up with finalising the new Grampians guide - save for that particular weekend when Paula and I are running the VCC end-of-month trip to Arapiles.
If anyone in the Halls Gap area would like to do some reconnaissance for me, get in touch!

hmm, seems I may be able to make 24th and 25th after all. Is this thing actually going ahead on that w/e?

Or do I go on Steve's Arapiles trip and lead some beginners up some easy stuff. It's been a while since I've been on a VCC trip and my usual climbing partner is unavailable until January.
