Latrobe Valley Climbers? Woodys? |

Hello,
I'm Glen. I moved down to Traralgon from Q'land this year.
I gave up looking for anywhere to climb within a reasonable distance and so built myself a woody (indoor since it's been so bloody cold and wet) in my spare room. Frustrating since up in Q'land I'd be out climbing at Tibro, Frog, Coolum every weekend, and Kangaroo Point, and indoor, through the week. Still, the woody turned out good, calluses are returning to their former level of ugliness.
I searched through here once before for local climbers and gave up. Are there any frustrated climbers hiding out there somewhere? Anyone else got a woody?
I'm tempted to design and build something bigger and altogether more exciting than my current woody if anyone else would be willing to get involved.

I'm not in your area, but there is a bit of climbing nearby. Mt Erica, Mt Neilson, Wilson's Prom and a bit on the Mitchell river if I remember rightly. There is even a weird cliff out near Lake Glenmaggie with indoor holds attached to it!

Hey Glen,
I`ve just moved back to the area and am struggling with the climbing around here too. There`s meant to be some stuff around, but mostly in the past I`ve just headed out into Western Vic. There`s meant to be some stuff in the area, so I could let you know as I go! I went to Mushroom Rocks today - it could be a good area with a bit of work.

Thanks Pat. Good to know there is some climbing/bouldering around. You didn't really sell the Glenmaggie cliff that well! Still I'd probably throw my shoes in the car if I was headed up that way.
Duffy, I headed to the Gramps a couple of weekends ago, 8 hours there (accident stopped traffic) and 5 hours (cranking) back. Way too much for one weekend, though the climbing is fantastic.
I'd be keen to have a look at some of these boulders in the forest. Seems like about an hour drive from Traralgon. If you fancy the company next time give me a shout. My memories of granite slabby routes from Giraween are of me thrutching about pinching tiny crystals! Not sure where exactly you are but you are more than welcome to have a play on my woody

Hey Glen,
I've been in Traralgon for six months after returning from London. Got a taste for climbing while I was there and have been struggling to deal with the lack of it around here. Just bought myself a rope and my girlfriend a harness so we can get out a find something... anything. I'd been keen to check out your woody and help with the construction of a bigger one if it comes to that. Let me know if your still keen.

Hi Glen
I'm a sports journalist at your local paper, the Latrobe Valley Express, and I thought you might be interested in doing a story?
Perhaps we could meet up and have a chat about rock climbing, indoor and outdoor, your woody and your interest in designing another one?
It could help generate some interest in the sport in the Latrobe Valley.
If you're interested or know someone else who is, please shoot me an email at sport@lvexpress.com.au or give me a call at the office on 5135 4444.
